The 1986 Mellon Bank Button Set:

Storyline 1986:

In 1986, the age of political correctness was born with respect to button slogans.

It seemed that fans of Penn State's intrastate rivals, the University of
Pittsburgh Panthers were not keen on the idea (Are they keen on anything!?)
of a Pittsburgh-based Mellon Bank sponsering buttons that were critical,
no matter how innocuously, of the home team Panthers! (Get a backbone!)
Mellon Bank consequently left its name and logo off the Pitt button
and the result was a plain blue button with slogan only.

Strangely enough, despite winning the national championship, no special button
was produced to comemmorate the accomplishment....that's OK, I don't need a
special button....I can still see Pete Giftopoulos' interception to seal the deal!
