The 1973 Central Counties Bank Button Set:

Storyline 1973:

In 1973, the Penn State bank buttons underwent their
second facelift in two years, this time a major change.
Also, for the first time, a special non-gameday button
was issued to commemorate a milestone occasion.

First, the major change....
The powder blue button color was replaced with a darker, navy blue color,
more true to the football uniform color. Secondly, in addition to the bank
logo which was added in the second generation set of 1972, the bank decided
to "spell it out" as they added "CENTRAL COUNTIES BANK SAYS:"
along the top edge of the button....this was a strong departure from last year
when CCB was initially apprehensive about having their logo displayed!

At the end of the season, a special non-gameday button simply entitled,
"BACK THE LIONS", was issued by Central Counties Bank to commemorate
the Lions' undefeated regular season as they headed to the Orange Bowl!

Another change in 1973 was the color and size of the bowl game button.
In the inaugural year of 1972, the bowl button was enlarged and the color
scheme was reversed to make the button standout. In 1973, the bowl button
was the same size and color scheme as the regular season gameday buttons.
