The 1974 Central Counties Bank Button Set:
Storyline 1974:
In 1974, the changes to the Penn State bank buttons
subscribed to the theory that "bigger is better".
The diameter of the button was increased by about 3/16" and
the expression, "CENTRAL COUNTIES BANK SAYS:" was changed
from a small, uppercase font to a larger, bolder lowercase font.
The theory that "more is better" was also in effect as
two buttons were produced for the bowl game.....since they changed
the color of the bowl buttons in the first two years, this year
they simplified things by making one of each color scheme!
Many collectors have asked me, "Which is the hardest button to find?"
The answer to that question is quite simply, "The one that you don't have!"
That being said, this blue version of "Skin the Bears" is, in my opinion, the
"Holy Grail" of the bank buttons. I have only seen it one time in Paul Harro's
collection and it is the only button that I have never seen on eBay!
Please help me find this button so I can get on with my life! ;)
UPDATE (July 2018):
Special thanks to the Harro family for graciously allowing me to acquire
a portion of Paul's collection, including the coveted "Holy Grail" button!
My collection is now complete!
